Biography
|
Mr. Desmond Murphy, from Monroe, New York, is a third-generation of the canine world, with a family history deeply rooted in dog handling—his grandfather, father, and two uncles were all renowned handlers. Originally from Scotland, Desmond grew up surrounded by Greyhounds, Whippets, and Terriers at the family's Mardormere Kennels.
Embarking on his handling career in 1958 under the mentorship of his uncle, John Murphy, a respected handler and judge, Desmond, often referred to as Desi, achieved notable success, particularly with Chow Chows, handling seven different dogs to Best in Show victories. His expertise, however, has significantly evolved to focus on bully breeds, culminating in his creation of the BullyGanza, a premier event in the USA celebrating these breeds.
He has been an AKC judge since 1976 and has judged Best in Show at the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show in 2021 and at the AKC National Championship in 2022 as well as Westminster in 2024. He has judged on every continent of the world, having judged at the World Dog Show three times. |
