Lara Sorensen's Bio:
Since 1991 I have been competing in dog sports with my purebreds and sport mixes. My Dalmatians were highly decorated in agility, obedience, road trials and scent hurdle racing. After years of participating in these sports and judging CKC agility, I had a craving for something faster and, in 1998, joined the Fort Saskatchewan flyball club. In 2005 I started my own team, Quad Run now known as Prairie Pirates. Through the years, I have taught many different breeds and handlers the sport of flyball and scent hurdling. My other passion is disc (frisbee). I started to learn how to play in 2008. From 2009 – 2014 I have placed first through third in the Canadian Skyhoundz Qualifier with my purebreds and sport mixes in the disciplines of Freestyle and Distance & Accuracy. Each qualifying spot has given me the opportunity to compete against the best at the Skyhoundz World Finals in Tennessee. In 2012 I had my best result with placing 2nd in the Extreme Distance Micro Dog with my dog Skull. My most successful disc dog in extreme distance is Davy Whippet. Although I am not the one throwing for Davy he is trained by me. He has become the first dog to catch over 400 feet, is a five time World Record holder and a Guinness World Record holder. His achievements are published in the 2014 Guinness World Record 2014 Edition and recently published in Ripley’s Believe it or Not 2015 Edition. This year I have 6 dogs who have qualified for Skyhoundz Worlds in the various disciplines. Each of these dogs are crossed trained so can play multiple sports due to the training techniques and foundation that I teach in each of my dogs. With these skills they can easily be turned into a fast scent hurdling team. I look forward to teaching you many different drills that prepare your dog to race in any of the above sports.

NOTES

Description
Regular Dog-to-dog interactions are difficult to master. Because we don't speak Dog, and dogs don't speak English, we are stuck with interpreting what we see... and sometimes, we are wrong. It can be hard to know what to do. But we want to get it right. We all have the same questions and worries when two or more dogs are together. Are we being too cautious? Or too careless? Do we just let them work it out or try to orchestrate pleasant encounters? When is it okay to put two dogs together? What is play and what is not play? Who is a suitable playmate? Do size or age differences matter? Is it an argument or serious fight?

Practical information and techniques will be discussed (and demonstrated as possible), including: Reading Body Language (important clues), Connection & Control (supporting your dog & remaining connected), The Think & Learn Zone (how arousal affects dog-dog interactions), Management vs. Training (know the difference), Permissions, Not Permissive (the power of explicit permissions), Safe Introductions (multiple techniques for sensible, safe introductions), Even Though...Training (developing responsibility in the dog for self-control & appropriate behavior even though), Look Who's Here! (changing attitudes towards others), Breaking Up Dog Fights Safely For those involved in rescue, fostering dogs can create additional stresses on your permanent canine family. Special considerations and practical tips for meeting the unique needs of fosters will be addressed.

Join us for this intense two day seminar packed full of practical information, effective techniques based on hard won experience. For more information and to register, visit: www.canine-chaos.com/events/2014-suzanne-clothier-seminar/.

Cost: $299 Early Bird (register before April 1, 2014). Regular - $349.

Evening lecture with Suzanne Clothier on Friday, June 13th. Cost: $25

If you love animals, if you understand that life with animals can take you down some interesting roads. If you've ever wondered whether Dr. Doolittle might actually be real, this evening is for you. Suzanne Clothier has lived with many different species throughout a life devoted to animals, and she's got a bit more than just some dog hair on her jeans to show for it! By turns hilarious and touching, spend a great evening relaxing with other animal lovers and laugh while you learn a bit about what living on animal time and animal terms can do to a life.

NOTES

Description
Whether you are participating in a working spot or audit spot, this is a workshop you don't want to miss. Recognized by many as being one of the most innovative trainers in the sport, Ed creates solutions to training problems. He and his dogs have earned over 50 tracking titles, on 10 different breeds of dogs, including 12 TDX, 5 VST and 3 CT titles while training dozens of other breeds and their handlers to attain advanced titles. Ed has trained over 5,000 dogs in tracking, through his series of international seminars, workshops and tracking camps. Having worked with over 140 different breeds of dogs, he brings a refreshing motivational outlook on dog training to this sport.

This is not an intro to tracking workshop. You and your dog will require a background in tracking to participate. We require a minimum of a TD title on the dog you are planning to bring to the workshop. Audit Spots are available for all levels.

Description
CARAT Level 1.2 on June 12th - 13th in Sidney, BC. Early Bird Cost: $345 (register before April 1st). Regular: $395.

Prerequisite: CARAT Level 1.1 and commitment to the CARAT certification path developed by Suzanne Clothier in 2007. CARAT (Clothier Animal Response Assessment Tool) is a novel assessment system that categorizes behavior traits in multiple components that are intuitive and practical. It is the assessment system currently in use at Guiding Eyes for the Blind, one of the world's largest guide dog schools, and is used to evaluate puppies, breeding stock and dogs coming in for training. CARAT takes a detailed view of the individual dog as a unique combination of many factors working together to influence, exacerbate, mitigate and enhance each other. In the profile created by the nuances and specifics of this complex interaction of multiple traits, an accurate picture is created of the individual, regardless of breed or age. CARAT (Clothier Animal Response Assessment Tool) is a must have tool for any serious animal professional who is involved in assessing behaviour.

To learn more about CARAT go to http://suzanneclothier.com/content/carat.
