Roger Abrantes & Nicole Wilde Seminar
May 29 - 30, 2010
Langley
An action-packed weekend with Roger Abrantes and Nicole Wilde.
On Saturday, May 29th, Nicole’s topic will be Alternative Approaches to Healing Canine Health & Behavior. Most of us are familiar with treating canine health issues through traditional veterinary medicine, and behavior problems with training and behavior modification. But there are other useful modalities that can be used in conjunction with those treatments. Why limit the good you can do for dogs? Come and learn about some fascinating alternative approaches to healing canine health and behavior.
The morning session will begin with an informative overview of how vibrational, energy-based healing methods work. The afternoon is dedicated to the emerging field of hands-on energy healing. You will learn simple, effective techniques to rebalance a dog’s energy and to clear blockages. A dog whose energies are in balance will experience improved health and display better behavior. You’ll learn how energy healing can calm dogs in a variety of situations, and how it can help with health issues, as well as behavior issues such as fear and aggression. Even those who are deeply skeptical have come away from this seminar with a new view of what these healing modalities can accomplish. Learning to use these alternative approaches can literally be a life-changing experience!
On Sunday, Roger’s topics will be The Evolution of Canine Social Behavior, Dog Language. This classic lecture is the comprehensive introduction into the world of canine communication. All aspects of canine communication are shown by means of slides or film. Aggression, fear, dominance, submission, friendliness, with all their multitude of expressions, are shown and explained in wolves, jackals, foxes, coyotes and dogs. This lecture is also a comparative study of canine and human behavior.
Problem Behavior in Dogs will be the afternoon topic. This talk covers the treatment of problem behavior in dogs from common problems like walking the dog and home alone problems to more complicated issues such as aggressive and fearful behavior. The talk is based on the extensive experience and large files of the Etologisk Institute. The talk targets professionals such as veterinarians, behavior counselors and trainers but is also useful for the dog owner who is interested in understanding how problems develop or how to avoid them.

| Hosted By: | Clear Sailing Dog Sports |
| Location: | Prince George |
| Time: | 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. |
| Cost: | $25 (seats are limited) |

Temple Grandin, Ph.D., associate professor of animal science at Colorado State University, and author of the books "Animals in Translation", "Livestock Handling and Transport" and “Thinking in Pictures”. Her interest in animal welfare began with designs for sweeping curved corrals, intended to reduce stress in animals being led to slaughter.
The best-selling animal advocate Temple Grandin offers the most exciting exploration of how animals feel since The Hidden Life of Dogs. In her ground breaking and best-selling book Animals in Translation, Temple Grandin drew on her own experience with autism as well as her distinguished career as an animal scientist to deliver extraordinary insights into how animals think, act, and feel. Now she builds on those insights to show us how to give our animals the best and happiest life — on their terms, not ours.
In her latest book Grandin identifies the core emotional needs of animals. Then she explains how to fulfill them for dogs and cats, horses, farm animals, and zoo animals. Whether it's how to make the healthiest environment for the dog you must leave alone most of the day, how to keep pigs from being bored, or how to know if the lion pacing in the zoo is miserable or just exercising, Grandin teaches us to challenge our assumptions about animal contentment and honour our bond with our fellow creatures. Animals Make Us Human is the culmination of almost thirty years of research, experimentation, and experience. This is essential reading for anyone who's ever owned, cared for, or simply cared about an animal.
This seminar is a collaborative effort between the Nechako Valley Regional Cattleman’s Association, Northern Health, the horse industry and Clear Sailing Dog Sports.
It is a rare opportunity to hear Temple Grandin speak on the latest research regarding dog behaviour including how fears develop, behaviour differences between breeds and pack behaviour.
